50 Classic Items

image from Matchbook Mag on Tumblr

How many of these items do y'all have in your closet? I need to get some of these items. Since I turned 34 I have focused more on quality vs. quality. In the past I would say, oh wow, it's $10 at Walmart/Target I'll take it. Never taking into account whether the color matched my skin tone, style worked for my body type, or if the materials were lasting. I have actually wasted a lot of money in wearing something just a few years whether than something that cost more but lasts for several years. This is a place to start!

Happy Weekend!

before and after pictures and diet update

I have been on hcg since late January. The Before...This picture was taken of the Mr. and I when we went to "A Christmas Story" house and tour in Cleveland at Thanksgiving. By the way, the tour was SO cool! It was Ralphie's house! So, you can see the fullness in my face and neck.
The After...this was taken last weekend when I was stress free during my stay-cation. I've lost about 30 pounds. I took 2 weeks off as I finished the first round. I just started again last week. Of course over the weekend we had family and I went well over my 500 calories. Thankfully I did not gain any additional weight except for water weight. My whole body was swollen! I totally understand the no salt aspect of the diet as I had guacamole and chips that were salted and my body swelled so badly. So, I'm back to it. Breakfast today is my iced coffee. I'll have lunch in a few minutes of baked potato with fat free sour cream. Dinner will be salad and Aidel sausages. Dessert will be fruit sorbet. So, here's to the next 45 pounds being gone!

Will's trip to NYC!

Last weekend (17-21st), my Beloved took our son Will to NYC. Beloved had to go for a brief business meeting and asked his boss if our son could come for his birthday (on the 20th). The boss said yes on Wednesday and they left on Saturday. As you will see in the pictures they had a blast. Poor Will had what he called "air bubbles" (blisters to everyone else) on his toe after the first day from all of the walking. My husband said they walked like 7 miles per day. I'm glad it was them and not me! Anyway, they went to the Empire State Building, Staten Island Ferry to pass Statue of Liberty (long line), Ellis Island, Little Italy, Chinatown, Manhattan, Central Park, Bryant Park, library, video game museum, and more!
He's tired when arriving
We aren't sure who/what he's pointing at, but it's a funny expression.
Central Park
Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral on St. Patrick's Day
They said it reeked of pot.
He's a gamer
Waiting on food in Little Italy
A owner of a restaurant in Little Italy that knew my husband from a nightclub he worked at here in Atlanta
We did a lot of FaceTime (here showing Anne the view from their hotel in Times Square)
Self-explanatory

These are just from husband's phone. I will download more from Will's and if there's anything else I will post this week. Stay tuned for our adventures from the weekend. I'm on my second iced coffee.

family comes to town.

image from Tumblr

My sister, sister-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, 4 nieces, 2 nephews, and 1 mother-in-law (not mine) are all coming to visit from 2 different states. In over 14 years of marriage this has never happened. My sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew are stopping by on their way to Orlando for spring break to spend tomorrow with us but are staying with some friends. They haven't been here in 3 years. My husband's sister, her mother-in-law, and 3 nieces are here to see my nephew by marriage as he is here in town studying. I could get offended that they haven't been down to visit us in 7, yes I said 7, years but will just be happy they are coming. Oh, and did I mention that I have 2 nieces with the same name (1 from mine and one from the Mr's)? Thankfully one is a baby and will be called baby all weekend.

Will's birthday was last Tuesday and since they will all be here we are having a little party for him and nephew by marriage tomorrow. Tonight my husband's family is coming over for a potato bar dinner and movie. So, I best get cleaning! I shall see y'all on Monday or Tuesday with photos and deets!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Touched my heart

Yesterday I was bringing my bonus daughter home from her friends house when she touched my heart to its very core.

Back story, I married my husband when Anne was 2. Her biological mother took Alex and Anne to Arizona. We had them every summer, but Anne belonged in her being to her mother. Unfortunately the mother went down a bad road and lost the respect and love of her children. Anne felt she was the adult and took care of the mother. She finally got tired of it and a little over a year ago she moved in with us (Alex has lived with us since 2006).

Last night Anne and I were talking about how living in a loveless household makes a person shut down and not be able to show love to others. She said, so is this why I couldn't cry when I lived with my mom, but I cry frequently at our home. Oh my word, that touched my soul. Its nice to know she knows she is loved.

Staycation

Hey there my friends! How is everyone? I hope all are well. My husband and Will (my youngest) are in NYC. They left on Saturday and will be home Wednesday afternoon. Even though I was not able to go with them Alex, Anne, and I have had the best vacation. Seriously. For two whole days I did no cooking or cleaning, well, except dishes because a house is bonafide disgusting if there's a big pile of dishes in the sink. I hate ants...and waterbugs...and most insects...at least inside of my house. Anyhoo, I finally drove! You see in December I had ankle surgery on my right ankle and I was not able to drive. On Saturday I had to drive as the fellas had to get to the airport on the southside (yes, that means that on my first day of driving since December 5th I drove through downtown Atlanta...I deserve a medal). So, I felt like a fabulous 16 year old just getting my license and had to drive everywhere. Granted I had to alternate between my left and right foot, but I was bound and determined that I was going to get out of the house. No being home the whole weekend because my beloved just had to go to NYC without me. So, my girlie girl and I went thrift shopping on Saturday. She's strong and was able to put my wheelchair in and out of the trunk of our Ford. Thank goodness for after Old Navy and Rag-o-Rama there was no way that I was going to make it through the Goodwill even with crutches. We stopped and got pizza and Eagle Brand (you have got to try Ree's iced coffee, it's addicting). We watched a movie and then I took my first of 3 thus far long bubble baths, ahhh.

Sunday, I unfortunately overslept and we missed church, boo. So, we decided to use the gift card my parents gave me and had lunch at Panera Bread. It was so good! Afterwards we perused Blick art store and I drooled over the Cavallini note cards and stamps while Anne was imagining all of the clay sculptures she wanted to make for her friends. Then we went to SuperTarget. She found a dress and cardigan that she likes. She is set for at least a month for clothes as the other two and this thinning Mama need some things too. I went on ahead and bought a few things for dinner for the next few nights. I'll go to Costco on Wednesday morning before my husband comes home so we are stocked. We came home and painted nails, tweezed eyebrows, and she put her outfits together. It's fun to be 16. A cool thing that happened all weekend is that no one believed me that I am her Mom. Granted I am not biologically, but seriously, most people thought I was in high school or college. I'll take it.

So, as you can see, it has been relaxing. Today I had to run a doctor errand, do a load of laundry, and tidy a bit. Tomorrow we will do more cleaning and I have to do the homeschool schedule, oh, and make bread. I'm weaning myself slowly back to working.

Happy 18th birthday Alex!

This bearded young man sang "Oh my darlin'" to me the 1st day we met when he was 3 years of age. He truly is something else. Some days are good some days are bad...but they are all worth it to be his bonus Mother. I love you son.

Happy Birthday Sis!

This is a picture of my sister and I (taken at our Nana's house) when I was 13 and she 19. Happy birthday to my sister, friend, confidant, hero, and some time Mother. Thank you for being there for me and caring for me. I love you!

Advanced Style

I came across an adorable blog called Advanced Style (www.advancedstyle.blogsot.com). A small group of women take fashion pictures of mature ladies and gentlemen. I think I'm more drawn to it than it's modern counterpart, The Sartorialist, as I am so greatly influenced by my grandmothers. When I was a girl Muzzie would take me to the nursing home to entertain its residents and they became my friends.

Also on Advanced Style, you'll find modesty yet style and nowadays that's hard to find. So check it out!

easiest peanut butter cookies in the world

I don't know the next time I will make these for I ate my weight in them this weekend, which is a no-no on my diet. However, they are easy and delicious so I thought I would be ever-so-sweet or rude depending on your weight and diet dedication and share this scrumpdelicious dessert recipe. (By the way, if you make these, take a picture within 2 minutes-not 2 days like myself when they have all disappeared therefore one must use a cute, but generic picture.)

(I double this recipe as I have 3 teens and a sporty husband and, well, I need to eat my weight in them so there must be a large supply, oh and a nephew visiting as well.)

1C. Peanut butter (I prefer natural that is VERY well stirred)
1C. sugar
1 egg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients in a stand mixer if you have one. If not, I guess you have fabulous arms but it's more work. Take a small ice cream scoop or cookie scoop and place on a silpat or parchment paper lined baking sheet(s). Bake for 10 minutes. Let cool on the sheet then place some in a cookie jar/bowl/plate for others and then place some in Ziploc bags and hide them for yourself (if you want to be a bad girl) or just share them all.

Rowing/Crewing

My husband, bGw, is a member of our local rowing club and loves erging and rowing/crewing. Honestly, I do not know the difference between the two so I am mentioning both. Over the weekend we were watching "The Social Network" and the twins were rowing. My husband took our NBM (nephew by marriage) down to the river and showed him the boat house and NBM was laughing and calling him a yuppie. Well, yes, it is a yuppie sport but my husband is more of the nerdy yuppie not true blue. Anyway, in looking through my picture archives I found a few rowing pictures that I discovered on Tumblr and Allposters that are just beautiful. I can see why my husband loves this sport!

My Diet Tips

Do not do this diet without doctors permission. In my previous post on my diet I had a couple of people ask how I am doing it, so here are my tips. Again, I lost 22 pounds in a month and have many more to go. So, here's my routine. And, do. not. break. from. it. How do I know? I took away something and my cravings got so bad I ended up eating pie and pizza and gained 3 pounds! It can be boring and it can be strict, but I have been talking with a friend whom has done this longer for some new recipe ideas.

I am following the HCG diet through Lean and Lovely. Basically the hcg keeps me from being very hungry and I eat about a 500 calorie diet. Yes, it is strict and sounds unhealthy. There are 3 phases to it and I'm on the boot camp type phase as I am extremely sedentary and slightly obese. My friend lost 25 pounds in a month and is now on the maintenance phase and eats pretty much anything she wants (sounds great!). I will say, that the first two weeks were not fun on hcg as I had morning sickness, but once that went away I have been fine. During that time I was also so very hungry and going through fast food withdrawals. Since then I have not had too many issues except for having pizza and cookies and pie on Valentine's day.

So, here is my diet plan:

B- 7 Sesame seed Melba toast crackers, 1 wedge Laughing Cow cheese
Morning snack- banana and 1 Tbsp. peanut butter
Lunch- Salad with feta and sun-dried tomatoes
Afternoon Snack- hard boiled egg with Dijon or carrots and hummus
Dinner- 2-3 oz. lean hamburger, chicken, or turkey with vegetable
Dessert- fruit sorbet

These are extreme small portions of everything. You get used to it. In a month I will be released by my doctor to begin swimming and hopefully I will lose more quicker.

Once again, I hate to recommend hcg to everyone as it has it's issues, but I have had success with it. Good luck!

Easter Decorations and Prayer

My Mother made me a beautiful Easter egg wreath a few years ago, but otherwise I do not have too many decorations. I have been looking online for some sweet Easter decorations. My two favorite stores are Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn. The photo above and below are from P.B.
The next 2 are from W.S.

This is a hummingbird feeder from somewhere online, but I found instructions on how to make it yourself! As a homeschooling project from my son I do believe we will make it ourselves. I love God's creation of birds. I also adore this and this as well. I adore Cracker Barrel! When I was in high school I worked part-time in the shop one summer.
Speaking of my childhood, my home state (KY) and where my sister lives (IN) are being inundated by horrible weather with tornadoes. Please pray for those in the Southeast and Midwest. May the Lord keep them all safe! As I type my parents are in their basement because of tornado sirens. To my family members that read my blog, I love you all and please be careful!

As February closes...

Happy leap day! Technically it is March 1st, but I wanted to share with you all my beloved Victoria magazines that I have found at antiques stores, eBay, current subscription, and from my beloved Muzzie. Tomorrow I will pull out March's and love them too. It truly is the little things that can bring joy.
