The Big Hamper

"They reached a lovely grove at sundown and stopped by the way to have supper. Graham got down and made George help him get out the big hamper.

There was a most delectable lunch; sandwiches of delicate and unknown condiments, salad as bewildering, soup that had been kept hot in a thermos bottle, served in tiny white cups, iced tea and ice-cream meringues from another thermos compartment, and plenty of delicious little cakes, olives, nuts, bonbons, and fruit. It seemed a wonderful supper to them all, eaten out there under the trees, with the birds beginning their vesper songs and the stars peeping out slyly. Then they packed up their dishes and hurried on their beautiful way, a silver thread of a moon coming out to make the scene more lovely.

Doris was almost asleep when at last they began to hear the booming of the sea . . . ."

what's going on in your world?

Summer in Brambly Hedge

Hello! It's been awhile! I had absolutely no idea that it had been so long since I last posted. My day to day has been so busy as my youngest son and I dived into the pile of schoolwork that did not get completed before Muzzie's death. So we piled on the work and nearly finished. He's already taking a chemistry class three days a week for the summer, so I thought he may as well finish English and Health on those days and take our time.

The day of my last post, my youngest and I went to stay at my parents house for a few days until the visitation and then my husband arrived from San Francisco for the funeral. We left the next day, Monday, to come home. I enjoyed seeing my family, especially my cousin, Karyn, that lives in France. One of these days my husband and I are going to show up on her doorstep. That being said, I was ready to go home and get on with life.

Unfortunately, the on-with-life bit meant my oldest being deployed for 9 months two days after we got home. It was just a bit too much too soon. The not knowing when/if we will see him on top of my grandmother dying...it was too much! Sooo...

My sweet husband took me on vacation! It was really just a long weekend, but boy was it just what the doctor ordered, literally. The road to paradise.

We stayed at Epworth by the Sea in Saint Simons Island. It's a lovely "Methodist compound" that we have been visiting nearly every summer for ten years. Last year we weren't able to go because of my back surgery problems. This year though, I was ready! Well, with the use of a wheelchair when necessary. We went to the beach, swam at the pool, ate tons of ice cream, and walked "in town".

On Sunday as we were headed home, we stopped in Savannah. It's one of my favorite places in the world! It has a lovely old world charm that is rare to find in Georgia (thanks to Gen. Sherman, stinkin' Yankee, haha). The best store to visit is The Paris Market.

Since then I've spent a lot of time swimming laps. I'll lay out for about 20-30 minutes to get some vitamin D. This was my swimming buddy one day.

My husband and daughter are both out of town (separate places) so I've eaten nothing but junk, watched You've Got Mail and When Harry Met Sally. Oh, and do not watch The Tudors unless you're into inaccurate history and soft porn. Seriously. I had to watch iCarly to get it out of my head!

Today is the first day of summer, the summer solstice, and also Lilly Pulitzer Day. Love her clothing! Here's a picture of me on our vacation showing my tan in my Lilly dress/cover-up.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day celebrating summer!
