The Cambridge's Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to my favorite royal couple, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. As an anglophile, I was so excited to watch every minute of the wedding from the crowds, Prince Harry whispering how beautiful Catherine is to Prince William, to Prince William driving his father's Aston Martin and driving them off to their honeymoon.
A few years later, this beautiful boy, Prince George, was born. He looks so healthy and happy. I hope he remains to be so.
The Duchess is due from mid-late April with "the spare" (Prince George is "the heir). Today, the Duchess was spotted going from her home at 1 Kensington to Buckningham Palace where she swims in the palace indoor pool. I hope she and Prince William have a nice anniversary and induce that baby! ;)

Dabney

“She wore either cable-knit sweaters and kilts or a beat up pair of Levi’s and an oversize men’s Oxford shirt. She has the shirt in four colors: white, blue, pink, and peach. She always wore penny loafers, and she always wore a strand of pearls and pearl earrings. That was Dabney.” Elin Hilderbrand, “The Matchmaker”

Earth Day WASP Style

When married to a naturopathic doctor, you're surrounded by all things hippie. Add being a former homeschooling mother to the equation and that means super granola hippie surroundings. I was the only homeschooling mom at the park in Lauren reading Vogue. Anyhoo, I personally do not believe that there should be one day that we are grateful for the planet in which we live and everything on it. However, I do appreciate the attention being brought to taking care of the Earth. So, as a WASP married to a N.D., let me share how we "do" Earth Day every day.
  1. Eat organic vegetables. I think we all know that organic foods are healthier for us. Now, before you get on the I can't afford Whole Foods listen to me. Aldi sells organic foods for half the price of Whole Foods. Also, you really only need to get the stuff on the dirty dozen (basically anything without a shell or grown underground).
  2. Use reusable bags. (Okay, I must fess up to Ziploc for frozen vegetables.) If you're wanting preppy bags, Lilly's are adorable. I use Trader Joe's as they have old-fashioned bags and freezer ones at good prices.
  3. Reusable water bottles and coffee cups. Around the house, we have almost zero plastic except for 1 water bottle that my husband uses for his biking excursions. Otherwise it's all glass or stainless steel. I have a steel Starbucks cup for my iced coffee that I wash and bring with me, and if I could tolerate hot coffee I would buy one for the hot coffee. I do have an insulated stainless steel one for hot cocoa and ice water. I like Kleen Kanteen for stainless steel. We use Mason jars around the house. I just got the purple ones and they are cute (the blue are my absolute favorite though).
  4. Eat leftovers. I've forced my children to eat any leftovers, or I sent them to work with my husband. I've been on the Bento bandwagon for years. You can make soup out of chicken and vegetables or put them on a salad. If you really don't want the leftovers either compost, or send them out the back door for the animals.
  5. Drive as little as possible. Many cities have public transportation. Honestly, our public transportation (MARTA) is horrible so unless we need to go downtown we don't use it. If that's not your thang, then try to make your trips as close together as possible. For instance, yesterday after working out I went to Costco. Then since I was nearby (and after my husband and son texted me with requests), I went to Trader Joe's and Aldi. Sometimes it's insane how much I grocery shop. However, I go to these places only when they are somewhere else I'm planning to be at nearby.
Well, these are just a few things that we do in our house to help the Earth (and our wallets). Please remember that  it doesn't have to be Earth Day or require eating granola to be appreciative of our planet and be kind to it. And, if you buy Starbucks mugs and Lilly Pulitzer bags, you can look cute celebrating Earth Day every day too.

90's Fashion

I was watching Friends on Netflix the other night. I'm on the first season. I noticed Rachel and Monica wearing overalls
And crop tops. Phoebe looks like she should be at Coachella.
Forever 21 has a ton of 90's inspired clothes. I was in middle, high school, and college during the 90's so I am very aware of the "hip" fashion then and now.
My niece would totally wear these now. Friends is back and so are their fashions!

Happy Weekend

It's been a gloomy week in Atlanta, but it's held the tree pollen from a very high to high, so at least there's that good news. My husband and I are going to Ikea for the first time ever. I'm kind of excited!

Every prep is either happy about the Lilly for Target or really upset about it. I'm fine with it except for already seeing that somehow it's already being sold on eBay for triple the price, and it's not even on the market yet. That really irritated me. Real Lilly lovers want to have a chance to get it, and this was/is their opportunity to find it at a very reasonable price. To mark it up, pre-sale, is ethically wrong. I understand and love capitalism, yet, why ruin this opportunity for those that cannot afford regular priced Lilly?

This Nike video is for anyone that struggles with working out. I began working out for the first time since my back surgery when I woke up unable to feel my feet in May 2013. I totally feel this way, but love the way the video ends.

I do not wear a lot of lipstick, which is ironic considering my lips are my best facial feature. My gal pal Shirley posted this article for 21 Genius Lipstick Hacks. The broken eyeshadow hack is seriously ingenious.

What is everyone's plans for this weekend?

More Love Letters

 via

My Sundays begin with putting on comfortable weather appropriate clothing, grabbing my keys, wallet and phone, and heading out. My first stop is Starbucks or DD. Then I sometimes go to McD's to get a bacon and cheese biscuit. Last, I stop in Publix and get a double paper. I give my cashier my extra paper (after I've taken out the coupons, obv.), which she tells me how I've blessed her (so sweet) and then head home.

Once home I start reading the paper. A few weeks ago I came across this article in Parade magazine. In the article, More Love Letters is mentioned. My husband has written me one love letter, which was written in our dating period. That letter was in my wallet and that wallet was stolen. But they are not necessarily talking about actual I'm in love with you letters, but also showing random strangers love.

Everybody has a bad day. Everybody wants to feel loved, wanted, needed. Everyone likes to think that someone cares. It's a website/company that began when a girl that was dealing with depression began writing notes in her notebook that she left all over NYC. Just encouraging others made her feel good. This led Hannah to create a website asking people if they needed help. There's a page there that gives a listing of people that need a little encouragement and where to send the letters. I mean, who wouldn't love that?!

I'm in love with Rifle Paper Company for stationery. It is soooo cute. However, anything from the dollar store or even legal pad will work. Surprising people with encouragement is what matters most.

P.S. Isn't this iPhone case adorable?

Ten Things About Me

Recently I've had a ton of new readers (hey!) and it's been quite a long time since I've done an "about me" update. So, here's ten random things about me:
  1. Southern girl. I have only lived in the Southeastern US; Kentucky, Alabama, and Georgia have been where I hang my beret.
  2. God's girl. I am a Christian and that's who I am but not all that I am.
  3. WASP/Prep. For instance to church I wore a Lacoste polo shirt, J. Crew plaid City mini (similar) with navy leggings underneath, and J. Crew anchor flip flops with pearls
  4. Married with Children. Not Al and Peg Bundy, but for seventeen years I have been married to the Mr. (sometimes called B on here). I have 3 "children" (Nick is in the Army, Michaela recently moved to CA for school, and Bry is still in high school).
  5. I like iced coffee all day long, even in the winter.
  6. My favorite tv show... Andy Griffith Show or Gilmore Girls or Downton.
  7. Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite movies, but I love anything Hallmark.
  8. I've struggled with my weight since having Bry. After conquering it for the most part, I'm struggling losing the last 30 pounds so I began TIU today. Holy Headache Batman!
  9. Active on social media. Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Google+, Pinterest, Snapchat, etc.
  10. Lillies are my favorite flower.

Tell me about yourself!

Tone It Up Bikini Series

A few years ago I found out about Tone It Up (http://toneitup.com). It's a lifestyle program to get one fit. They talk nutrition, exercise, and more. The trainers are Karena and Katrina and their sweet, fun, and the right amount of energetic.

So, about a year ago I purchased their Nutritional Plan, but honestly never really did anything with it. I'm a biscuit girl, not a granola girl. I've also used the excuse of not being able to eat greens because of the medication I take for my blood thinner. Wellll, my hematologist changed it a few weeks ago to one that means I CAN eat greens. This is so inconvenient of her. ;) Now that I can eat kale I can eat most of what's in the plan. I still hate quinoa though and granola. My naturapathic husband keeps telling me that I can train my tongue from biscuits and gravy to quinoa bowls. Um, well, doubty. Now I suppose I'll find out.

I did the unthinkable and committed to do TIU's Bikini Series. I received my meal plan and recipes. I'm going grocery shopping, hoping I can find most of the ingredients at Trader Joe's instead of Whole Foods, as WF is much more expensive. I cannot do a lot of the workouts because of my stomach, ankle, and back surgeries. But, I will do the ones I can! That, I am actually excited for. In the weight I have already lost, I have saggy skin that I hope to tone up in addition to losing more weight. I don't have another 50 pounds to lose, but I have plenty. I swannee most of my weight is in my chest and butt. It's not easy to look thin when you're a D-cup. I've gone down 3 sizes all over, but not much in that area.

Sooo, who wants to sign up and do the series with me? Please say yes! I need accountability outside of my husband, whom will be SUPER supportive, but this is kind of his job and he's a boy. I want a fun girl to help me. Just check it out (http://toneitup.com) and comment or tweet me @vintagewasp if interested.

Daybook

For Today
April 9, 2015

Outside my window... trees are blooming, sun is shining, bees are buzzing, and pollen is coating everything in sight. We are in the 6,000's pollen count. Yes, the headache is constant and eyes are swollen, but the trees are pretty!

I am thinking... that this year is going by so quickly! Maybe that's proof that I'm getting old...

I am thankful... for so many things. I am truly blessed.

I am wearing... sky blue v-neck short sleeve shirt, black capri leggings, bare feet (silver flip flops earlier), nails in Revlon Roulette Rush, hair in a bun, Georgia necklace.

I am creating... list of potential jobs and network opportunities.

I am going... nowhere this afternoon. I went to the post office, seamstress, and Publix earlier. I may have picked up a sweet tea from McD's for the second day this week. Oops. Those things just happen...you're pulling out of a shopping center and the Caddy just somehow pulls into the McD's drive thru. It's just weird. ;)

I am wondering... what God has planned for us next.; hopefully it's a good thing.

I am reading... Twisted Sisters by Jen Lancaster. Magazine for the week is Tea Time.

I am hoping... to finish my Spring cleaning by the end of the weekend.

I am learning... that because of my happy go lucky personality I truly only stay down for a few days. I'm missing my oldest two, but am happy that they are thriving in their new enviorments.

Around the house... we put up little B's desk. He's moved into his room. This frees up the kitchen table so we are having family dinners at the table now instead of on the couches. .

In the kitchen... I plan on roasted cauliflower (hubs fave), salad, and baked fried chicken with peach jello with bananas for dessert.

A favorite quote for today... "Never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number of carats in diamonds." ~Mae West

One of my favorite things... is She Reads Truth bible studies.

A few plans for this week: cleaning and hopefully talking my husband into seeing Cinderella (doubtful but hopeful).

A peek into one of my days from this week... so yesterday I went to the doctor (iron check up) and I took this snapchat for my nieces. They make fun of me for being Miss Priss so I told them that I wear my pearls everywhere, including the doctor. This is was ingrained in me by my mother. Also note the pollen-induced swollen face.

Marley Lilly Flash Sale

(All images from Marley Lilly's Twitter feed.) I'm dying over this bow!

I love me a monogram...anything. To quote Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon "My rule is, if it's not moving monogram it". Smart girl! Someday I want to get monogram bedding, but that's not a reality at this stage. However, a monogram sale? I'm on it like a fly on honey! Marley Lilly has the cutest monogram items. These are more preppy than WASPy, but I love them nevertheless. Through tomorrow ML is having a flash sale. I'm still having to use my iPad to write this so I don't have all the links, but here is the main link to check out the fabulous flash sale https://marleylilly.com/category/flash-sale/.

These super adorable lounge shorts are on sale for $24.99. If a certain child, or all 3 pooled their resources, I would not be disappointed to get the pink seersucker ones for Mother's Day (May 10th). These would  make a cute graduation gift.
This would also make a great graduation gift, or Mother's Day gift. It is only $16.99! What a steal!
Everybody, male or female, needs a dignet ring. I have mine from high school and love it. If you have a sweet 16 party to attend, this would be a great gift. It's on sale for $24.99. There are matching earrings as well.
I've recently joined Tone It Up's Bikini challenge and these shorts would be great for working out. If you're a runner especially (I am not!). These are regularly $34.99, but through tomorrow they are on sale for $28.99.
Last but not least, these hats are perfect for the Derby, which is in only 25 days away, so you'd best get to ordering!

There are many other cute buys so go here and check them out: https://marleylilly.com/category/flash-sale/

National Tartan Day

Today is National Tartan Day. Now that I'm back on Twitter I am able to find out these tidbits from places like Town & Country's twitter feed. I'm a HUGE fan of tartan. Until college I was under the impression that tartan, madras, and plaid are not necessarily the same thing. Tartan is a type of plaid, but tartan actually represents clans, or families, originating in Scotland. Check out this article from Town & Country to learn the differences in plaids (http://www.townandcountrymag.com/style/fashion-trends/news/a2538/what-your-favorite-plaid-says-about-you/) I remember seeing that L.L. Bean's plaid shirts have specific names but it wasn't until college that I found out that the names come from the name of tartan such as Campbell and Black Watch (my favorite). http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/42272?feat=flannel%20shirt-SR0&page=scotch-plaid-flannel-shirt-traditional-fit

Here is a few tidbits of it's origin:

Originated: Scotland

Most popular types of tartan: Black Watch and Royal Stewart

Tartan fans: Kate Middleton. London Punks. Street Style Stars.

If you wear Tartan you are: classic, a traditionalist.

Tartan is used on Scottish kilts, and other clothing, but also in furnishings. Those curtains above are so rich. Also notice the pillow in another tartan. I've also seen lampshades and tableware in various tartans, especially at Christmas. Williams-Sonoma has used Royal Stewart tartan on their chargers.

Welcome April

"Beneath these fruit-tree boughs that shed
Their snow-white blossoms on my head,
With brightest sunshine round me spread
Of spring's unclouded weather,
In this sequestered nook how sweet
to sit upon my orchard-seat!
And birds and flowers once more to greet,
My last year's friends together."
